As we near the end of the first month of the season, here's a look at what I think the 2010 USA squad should look like...
1st line:
LW - Ryan Malone, Tampa Bay Lightning
(Gritty, physical winger has 6 goals in seven games)
C - Brandon Dubinsky, New York Rangers
(Talanted pivot helping Rangers to 7-1-0 start, posting 3-5-8 in 8 games as Gaborik's center)
RW - Patrick Kane, Chgicago Blackhawks
(size could be hidden playing with Malone, and Kane would benefit from Dubinsky's passes)
2nd Line:
LW - Zach Parise, New Jersey Devils
(has buried 108 goals over the past 3 season with the conservative Devils)
C - Tim Connolly, Buffalo Sabres
(here's hoping this talented pivot actually stays healthy for once)
RW - Bobby Ryan, Anaheim Ducks
(Off to a slow start, but should return to the 30+ goal level)
Brian Burke has mentioned several times that he prefers his teams have 2 scoring lines and two filled with sand paper. With that in mind, here are the bottom 2 lines...
3rd Line:
LW - Keith Tkachuk, St. Louis
(Still burying 'em for the upstart Blues)
C - Ryan Kesler, Vancouver Canucks
(Perfect 3rd-liner, gritty, kills penaties and has decent hands)
RW - Dustin Brown, Los Angeles Kings
(always among the league leaders in hits, can bury the puck, too)
4th Line
LW - David Booth, Florida Panthers
(Has 17 hits in 6 games, and will score 30 this year)
C - Chris Drury, New York Rangers
(Possible Captain, always good for clutch goals)
RW - Dustin Byfuglien, Chicago Blackhawks
(Can you imagine the punishment these 2 wingers can deliver?)
Defense Pairings
Erik Johnson, St. Louis Blues
Brooks Orpik, Pittsburgh Penguins
Brian Rafalski, Detroit Red Wings
Ryan Whitney, Anaheim Ducks
Matt Carle, Philadelphia Flyers
Mike Komisarek, Toronto Maple Leafs
Goalies
Ryan Miller, Buffalo Sabres
Craig Anderson, Colorado avalanche
Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins
